With a flight of three hours and twenty minutes from Santiago, I arrived at Punta Arenas, the capital of Chilean Patagonia. Punta Arenas has a very interesting history, knowing how its first settlers arrived and how it has developed until today. You can visit it in a mid-morning, another very nice excursion is the visit of an Estancia that is usually attended by its own owners that show you how they live, work in this environment sometimes so hostile, to end with a delicious roast of Lamb !! If you have time you should not miss the restaurant La Luna, where you can taste the delicious Patagonica crab, it is a very entertaining place.
From Punta Arenas, you can make many wonderful excursions, where landscapes simply overwhelm you. One tour I can recommend is leaving very early (04:00 am) in the morning from Punta Arenas to Puerto Carrera (50 km) to embark and from there sail ten hours through the beautiful Strait of Magellan where you can have a life adventure that will change your eyes regarding your feeling for nature and its beauties, you can see an endless number of animals typical of this area, Penguins, Southern Dolphins, Sei Whales, Toninas overas, Humpback Whales, etc. and an endless number of birds. (I recommend you go very well dressed for the occasion, very warm in layers) This tour lasts from 12 to 14 hrs., But you will not regret it, it is worth every minute !!! If you do not dare to this navigation you can make the navigation to Isla Magdalena & Marta that leaves Laredo Bay. It is a navigation of 45 min., Where I could see and know the natural habitat of the Magellanic Penguin then we continued our navigation towards Marta Island, I had the great luck to see a Whale Sei pass !!!, I could also observe Sea lions, seagulls, etc.
Do not miss the opportunity to visit these lands so far away from the polluted world in which we live, it is a wildlife respite !!!!
